Enhancing the Smooth Transition from Primary to Secondary School (Mathematics in English, General Studies in English )
In order to smoothen the transition from primary education to EMI secondary school, P5 and P6 elite classes will learn Mathematics and General Studies in English.General Studies (GS) teachers will choose some science-related units to teach in English. Students not only have exposure to more English vocabulary, but also have more chances to practice using them when performing interesting STEM scientific experiments and activities. Their English abilities will be enhanced and their interest in science will be aroused. Furthermore, GS teachers will encourage students to browse through English websites and watch science-related short films to broaden their learning horizons.
Mathematics teachers will teach each mathematics topic in English. Additional English mathematics assignments will be used as part of the enrichment programme. Therefore, they have an opportunity to develop their English Mathematics vocabulary. Their understanding and problem-solving abilities in English Mathematics will be strengthened too.
