We use guidelines from the Education Bureau’s (EDB) Key Learning Area Curriculum Guide (Primary 1 – Secondary 3)” for Arts Education for developing the strategy, aims and learning objectives of arts education. Therefore, this subject focusses on teaching knowledge of music, nurturing students’ holistic development (through fostering creativity and imagination, developing procedural skills, cultivating an ability to appreciate and critique music, and understanding art around us) and using I.T. and STEAM to nurture students’ interests.
In addition to the regular curriculum, this subject provides various platforms for students to showcase their talents, including talent competitions, as well as performances during lunch time and during Friday assembly. Extra-curricular activities are also arranged, where students can choose to join the School Orchestra, the Marching Band, the Chinese Orchestra, the school choir, A Cappella, the Creative Team and handchime lessons. We have also partnered with public organizations including the Hong Kong Police Band to co-organise the “Music Touch” concert, the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra for the “HSBC Insurance Creative Notes” programme and the EDB to represent primary schools of the 2017-2018 and 2018-2019 “Curriculum Leaders Learning Community – musical creation in the classroom”.
