English language
Our English curriculum aims at developing students’ language proficiency through the four basic language skills, which are listening, speaking, reading and writing. We also aim at developing their lifelong language learning skills so that they will become independent learners.
We have developed our school-based curriculum for reading and writing. We help students to become better readers and writers by equipping them with various reading and writing skills. For listening and speaking, we provide opportunities for them to be immersed in a language-rich environment.
There are two Native-speaking English teachers (NETs) at our school. One of them is teaching the Primary Literacy Programme: Reading and Writing, while the other is teaching the school-based reading curriculum for upper primary students. The focus is English language acquisition through a native-speaking environment. Students are encouraged to participate in fun activities with the guidance of the two NETs.
A variety of gifted programs are implemented to cater for learner diversity. Students are encouraged to join our language arts activities such as choral speaking, drama, debating and storytelling with puppets.
To foster learner independence, we cultivate students’ phonics skills, vocabulary building skills and introduce them to self-regulated writing strategies. The use of different electronic platforms and applications is also incorporated into the process of learning and teaching.
